Homestead Thirty One ... pursuing Biblical living on a small homestead in the city!

Why Homestead Thirty One?

Homesteading means different things to different people.  As I wandered through other homesteading blogs, I found this great definition from Amy at Tenth Acre Farm (Yes just 1/10 acre!): "Homesteading is the act of creating a productive home, which can be done no matter the size of the home or property." Our culture encourages us to be consumers and buy and dispose of things at a fast rate; but the attitude of homesteading is one of creating, growing, saving, and savoring.

So what about the Thirty One?  In the Bible, Proverbs 31 describes an archetypal godly woman - a woman with her priorities right, an open heart, hands, and home, and a work ethic second to none.  She works hard at the right things, is compassionate to the needy, and manages her home well to the glory of God.  I strive to be a Proverbs 31 woman here on my little plot of land, in my 1940s cottage home, with my three kids and husband, and in the community where God has planted us.  As I tend quail chicks, plant tomato seedlings, homeschool my children, wash my dishes, and host neighbors, friends, and family, I want my life - inside and out - to reflect God's glory like the Proverbs 31 woman.
